The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Basho is a beautiful book. "Every day is a journey and the journey itself is home." The title is also translated as The Narrow Road to the Interior. I think this is more apt because Basho travels both to the interior of Japan and to his own interior--it is the story of one traveler's deep reflections.

DeleteMy "wishlist" is so, so long, you'd hate me if I posted it. But one of the books is THE QUIET AMERICAN by Graham Greene.

I read a lot of great books by/on Thomas Merton, but am not familiar with this one.
I loved so much The Famous Five as a kid!

ReplyDeleteA number of these are on my TBR but the only one I've read is Marilla of Green Gables. I really enjoyed it which was an enormous relief. The Green Gables world is one of my favorites and I thought this one added to it nicely. Enjoy your reading!

A Gentleman in Moscow is my favorite on that list! I've read it twice.
ReplyDeleteI have only read 'North and South' on your list. However, there are a few favourite books to read, such as: The Quiet American by Graham Greene (always a fan of Greene) and The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. A Gentleman in Moscow I have heard so much about and am eager to read it.
