We went into the children's department at Fabled Bookshop & Cafe in Waco through a wardrobe entrance on a recent visit.
I'm going straight from Nonfiction November into the wardrobe. December is the beginning of #Narniathon21, an event in which we read C. S. Lewis' famous heptalogy, a book per month, in publication order. We are beginning with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Join us by finding out more here.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
Mrs. Claus and the Santaland Slayings by Liz Ireland
and any other good fiction I run across!
Last week I posted here at Readerbuzz:
Good Thing #1
Christmas decorations are up.
Good Thing #2
I love the winner of the Great British Bake Off.
Good Thing #3
Project FeederWatch has begun again.

Those stacks of books you have to read are really impressive! Too bad you maxed out on nonfiction, but I hope you find some good fiction soon. I've just read two very good novels -- one review is linked here.
ReplyDeletebest... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I've never overloaded on nonfiction during November until this year. I'll remember this next year and maybe I'll do some fiction along with the nonfiction.
DeleteLook at all of those books!! I can't wait to find out what you've chosen :)
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be difficult with 251 books to choose from!
DeleteI imagine you are a little tired of non-fiction! But it looks like you read some really good books.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Narniathon! I read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe a couple of months ago.
I love watching the birds outside our sliding glass door.
Have a great week!
I got several reference books about Narnia to go along with my read of the series.
DeleteLove that wardrobe! Nice to have a husband to carry your books. :)
ReplyDeleteHe's a good sport.
DeleteGreat snail mail for sure. I hope you post after the unveiling. (How cool about the wardrobe in the bookstore.)
ReplyDeleteThe wardrobe was a delight. I am eager to go back to that bookstore. The whole store is very fun.
DeleteOoh how did I not know about this? Happy Narniaing!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that doorway into the children's section. Awesome!!!!!
I've been looking forward to #Narniathon 21 for several months.
DeleteI'm joining the #Narniathon21! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI will look for you!
DeleteYou had a great reading November. Looks like December will be a great one too. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteI just finished David Copperfield...I've been reading it since August.
DeleteWhat a wonderful bookstore! I've been to Parnassus in Nashville and they have a door kind of like that but not nearly as magical. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit Parnassus in Nashville.
DeleteI love the Bake off winner too! And Wow to that pile of books for the Cybils!
ReplyDeleteTo me, the Bake Off winner was the best from Day 1.
DeleteCongrats on getting the decorations up. I will try to this week. I was struck by the Bicycling with Butterflies book ... that's a wild journey! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe the way the bicyclist camped along the way. I don't think I could be that brave.
DeleteSuch an impressive week of reading!
ReplyDeleteI was pleased with the choice of GBBO winner, but now it’ll be another whole year til the next,
Enjoy your adventures in Narnia!
Wishing you a great reading week
We have a Holiday version of the British baking show, so I'm happy about that.
DeleteI love the winner too! All the contestants were fantastic, but the winner was the one I was rooting for.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have had my eye on that Bicycling with Butterflies book!
We haven't got the latest British Bakeoff series yet. Unfortunately I did see a photo somewhere on social media so I know what the winner looks like.
ReplyDeleteI hate running across spoilers. Grrrr.
DeleteI had to think where that that door was leading. Lol, The lion, the wtich and the wardrobe has been on my mind a bit lately as I've been reading film scripts and whenever I read anything classical, it comes to my mind. it's so well done really.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to be reading this whole series. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time.
DeleteGood luck with the Narnia reading! I decorated for Christmas and watched Bake Off last week too. I'm happy with the winner. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteFunny that two of the best bakers this time were born outside GB.
DeleteThat doorway is so cool! I haven't read those books in a long time, I hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI do, too.
DeleteI love The Great British Baking Show and this year was truly great. Enjoy all those books!!
ReplyDeleteAll the bakers this year were admirable.
DeleteI'm sure you'll enjoy your Narnia reading... quite an abrupt switch from Nonfiction November, lol! Thanks for sharing the link to Amor Towles talk. I'll listen this evening. Hope you have a great week, Deb.
ReplyDeleteAmor Towles can definitely speak.
DeleteProject FeederWatch - one of my favorite citizen science projects; one that everyone of any skill level can participate in.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely...even kids.
DeleteI also think this was a fantastic season of the The Great British Bake off and am happy with the winner. All three were wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCYBILS! I am really excited to see which graphic novels make the finals for me to read in January.
You are right. All three were wonderful.
DeleteSomeday I plan to read the Narnia books. In the meantime, I am reading up on C.S. Lewis via a few books.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week!
I'm curious about C. S. Lewis, too.
DeleteWe had that Brilliant Maps book at our library. I didn't realize there was a website. I'll definitely check that out later today.
ReplyDeleteThere's also a second book.
DeleteYou are such a prolific reader! I love your little tree and feeder, too!
ReplyDeleteThe little tree is definitely a snap to put up.
DeleteA wardrobe entrance is kinda cool.
ReplyDeleteMy decorations are up too.
I spent a lot of time in the children's section of the bookstore. Next time, I will check out the adult section.
DeleteI used to read the Narnia series over and over when I was a kid. I loved those books! My copies are well loved and well read. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLisa Loves Literature
And I've never read the series!
DeleteEnjoy your switch to fiction. I haven't read the Narnia books for years. I first read them as an adult. I thought I had copies but LibraryThing says I don't. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why we never read these as children.
DeleteHow fun to go through a wardrobe into the children's department!!! I was all excited to participate in Narniathon, but, unfortunately, after rereading TLWW, I discovered I'm either not in the mood for it or else the magic is gone for me. So, moving on to other books for now. So sad.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to get a stack of books like that! Cute picture of your husband carrying them in. lol
Have a great reading week!
I do hope the magic is there for me.
DeleteLovely idea to read through the Narnia books. Have you seen Once Upon a Wardrobe - I think you might enjoy that alongside.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect, Kathryn. Thank you for the recommendation.
DeleteBookish mail is my favorite mail! The wardrobe is super cool. I would be tired of reading nonfiction as well, I usually read a couple a month, I am always reading at least one fiction and one non-fiction read, although I don't read the nonfiction as quickly as the fiction, LOL! Have a great week. https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2021/12/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-10.html
ReplyDeleteI love love that wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteI am drooling over all those books.
OK, I have now added An Alphabet for Gourmets, Bicycling with Butterflies, Five True Things, Brilliant Maps for Curious Minds, Book Towns, and Factfulness to my TBR. Because, why not, right?!
ReplyDeleteI had a few Cybils books arrive at my doorstep these past few days too.. loads still left to read..
And, yes, love that open wardrobe door.. Narniathon sounds fun but maybe next time for me..
I haver read ALL of the Narnia books and many serious essays and book by C. S. Lewis. I first came across him as a literary critic while I was doing my graduate work, then "grew" into him when I taught The Lion... to 6th graders.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo you shared from the Fabled book shop! What a great display they have of the "fabled" wardrobe. :)
ReplyDeleteNext time you come to Chicago, be sure to schedule a visit to https://www.wheaton.edu/academics/academic-centers/wadecenter/. It's in Wheaton easy of access with the Metra line from Chicago. Fabulous place with lots of manuscripts and memorabilia from CS Lewis (and Tolkien, MacDonald and others). They even do have a wardrobe that was made by a member of CS Lewis's family!
ReplyDeleteHere is the direct link to the CS Lewis memorabilia collection, with a picture of the wardrobe: https://www.wheaton.edu/academics/academic-centers/wadecenter/plan-your-visit/museum/featured-museum-artifacts/
ReplyDeleteThanks, Emma, I will.
DeleteWhat a fun bookstore! I bet the children love walking into their department through that doorway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the Towles talk. I've got it bookmarked and just need to decide if I should listen before or after reading the book. Suggestions?
I don't remember any spoilers, but it would probably be safer to watch after you read the book.
