The 2020 Virtual Advent Tour: Hang Some Mistletoe and Let the Kissing Begin!

What is the Virtual Advent Tour?
Has there ever been a year that is better suited for a Virtual Advent?

2020 has been a hard year for everyone, and the current world scenario doesn’t suggest the upcoming holidays are going to be any easier. We’re all thinking about how to celebrate differently at a time when tradition is particularly dear. But there are some annual events that can continue unabated, and the Virtual Advent Tour is one of them, hosted for the sixth time by Sprite Writes

As you likely know, the typical Advent calendar is a season-marking device, often paper, but sometimes crafted of other materials, to count down from December 1st until Christmas. Each day, you open a door to unveil a hidden scene or piece of chocolate or some other delight. The Virtual Advent Tour is a bloggers’ take on that. In our version, each morning Sprite Writes will point you to a post at someone’s blog in which they share something about their holiday season.

Hang Some Mistletoe

How about this for an easy holiday tradition? Hang some mistletoe, and let the kissing begin!

  1. Several years ago I read about the off-price grocery chain Aldi which sells a Wine Advent Calendar with a different ounce (?) for each day. I thought it would be the perfect gift for my sister whose birthday is at the beginning of December. At that time, there was no Aldi in my state. When one appeared, it became a prime source of chocolate croissants, which one could argue are even more important than Advent calendars. A new location opened half an hour away but still the mysterious wine Advent calendars must arrive in the middle of the night and sell out the next day. Still, they had some pretty cute Dog Biscuit Advent Calendars and as my sisters both have pandemic puppies, it turned out those were popular too!

  2. Keep distance is the motto here ! Lockdownn rules don't allow kisses ! Not even a hug !
On Christmas we are allowed to invite 1 person per household, the other one has to stay outside if it is a couple ! Hopefully it will change !!

    1. You are right! But it's lovely to remember the past.

    2. For everyone: Let me clearly state that I do not encourage flagrant and random kissing under the mistletoe!

I do hope to put mistletoe to good use within my pandemic bubble.

  3. OK, I hate to say this but I have the same mistletoe hanging I hung up a few years ago. I can't reach it and I sort of forget it's there!

  6. We do not have any mistletoe as we could not get any but that will not stop my wife & I kissing. Mind you I dare say there will be virtual kissing going on as well.
    Have a great Christmas

  7. This post is better than any Hallmark movie. It reminded me of Love Actually. A movie can watch over and over. Lovely to see "real" people just enjoying being under the Mistletoe.

My condolences for your loved ones that have passed away and cannot celebrate Christmas with you this year. Not even virtually. It's always hard over Christmas. I've lost my Mom and my Dad 11 months apart before I turned 30 and this will be the 12th Christmas without them and my first Christmas without any relative of my own. My sister can't come down to us due to Covid restrictions.

Luckily I have my husband and all the fur babies and wonderful friends! And Elza of course. What more can anyone want...

  12. Living in the moment this year is a terrible challenge, but we have to face it. It's good also to look back, and even without knowing your family, it's wonderful to share these good memories.

  15. Oh how fun! What a great series of pictures and how meaningful. I love advent calendars. This year I got my son a 15 days of cat socks just to be different and we've been having a fantastic time getting the new socks each day.
