Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each Tuesday That Artsy Reader Girl assigns a topic and then post her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.

Join this year’s hosts
Girlxoxo and Traveling with T for our annual #AMonthofFaves blog event – a fun way to recap the year that was (Estella’s Revenge is taking a hiatus for this year). We have a schedule of topics planned out, so feel free to join in anytime for some or all of the topics. There will also be a link-up on our blogs so that we can all stop by each other’s posts to leave comments, high fives, good vibes and well wishes.

  1. I really have to get Splendid and the Vile this year. That sounds like "my book." And also Paris in Winter! Merry Christmas Week to you!

  2. I am keeping your list on file as recommendations. Thanks.

  3. Splendid and Vile was great fun! And kudos for finishing War & Peace. :)

  4. I love these end-of-year lists. I've added Migrations, Weather and The Splendid and the Vile to my 2021 TBR list. Thanks, Deb!

  5. I have read so many wonderful books this year and I'm trying to pare down to a list of the very best of the best, but it is hard. I do know that some of your best will also be on my best list and one of your best, War and Peace, is on my all-time favorite list. I read it - and reread it and reread it - one summer as a teenager. I really should reread it now for a different perspective.

    1. I usually make about ten lists, but this year I decided to stay simple.

  6. I'm loving seeing people's 'Best Of' posts! I haven't written mine yet but now I'm off work, I'll get to it! :)

    1. It's one of my favorite things about this time of the year.

  7. All Creatures Great and Small is a favorite. We named our son Tristan after a character in these books. I have the book Weather on hold at the library and I ought to get that one soon.

    1. Weather is typically quirky Jenny Offill. I enjoyed hearing her speak at the Edinburgh Book Festival this year.

  8. So happy o see Zola here! I think Migrations should make my list as well. Blessed Christmas to you and your family

    1. It was my first Zola, but it will not be my last. Can't wait to see your list, Emma.

  9. What a question! Whew. I think I'd say the two most readable books that would appeal to the most people would be The Splendid and the Vile (nonfiction) and The Midnight Library (fiction).

  10. Most interested in Migrations and The Midnight Library so I am glad to see them on your list.

  11. So Migrations did make your list. That is good -- it will make mine as well. I'm curious about The Midnight Library ... and hope to get to it.

  12. The best part about this post is that you finished War and Peace and you liked it!

  13. I read All Creatures Great and Small when I was a kid because it is one of my mother's favorite books and remember loving it. I really should pick it up again. I'm sure I'd get much more out of it. I also really need to read more Larson. I've loved everything I've read by him so far.

  14. I loved Splendid and the Vile. I reviewed it on http://powerfulwomenreaders.com sometime back.

  15. The only one I actually read was L'Assommoir, but you certainly made my TBR increase, lol !

  16. All Creatures Great and Small is one of my all-time favorites; glad you enjoyed it! I read Strange Planet last night and I just love it. Not surprising because I've seen many of the comics around social media before, but a whole book of them held in hand was sheer delight.

  17. I adored the Midnight Library! The Splendid and the Vile is at the top of 2021 TBR list. And I'm giving thought to tackling Anna Karenina as an intro to the Russian classics that I have somehow missed in my reading life.

  18. Nice list with a good bit of variety!

  19. I'm so happy to see All Creatures Great and Small on your list! You've reminded me that I haven't added The Midnight Library to my holds list yet. And congratulations on finishing War and Peace! I read Anna Karenina several years ago and that felt too much like work for me to undertake more of Tolstoy's books. I'm glad you enjoyed it though!

  20. I'm impressed you read War and Peace! Wow. :)

    My post.

  21. I've seen The Midnight Library floating around and it's good to know it's worthy of being called one of the best. It's great you found so many amazing reads and I hope you find even more in the new year. See you on the flip side :)

  25. I keep on forgetting to read The Midnight Library. And the 80 Trees book is so enticing. My "favorites" of 2020 felt more like books that help me escape for a time from the awfulness of the year. Thanks for sharing. Some books I liked in 2020

  26. War and Peace was on my reading list this year, too. Being locked inside, it seemed like the perfect time for such a heavy, brilliant book.

  27. I love your beautiful collage of your best books! I'm hoping to do a separate post of favorite audiobooks, and The Midnight Library is likely to be on that! I just listened to it earlier this month. I've listened to so many audiobooks this year that narrowing the list to ten favorites is going to be difficult!

  28. I've seen a lot of good things about The Midnight Library.

  29. I loved Strange Planet too! I just didn’t have enough room on my list for it. Happy 2021!
